Canto 21. Saturn (April 2017)
(fourth incarnation)
We ascend to the 7th sphere of heaven, Saturn's crystal realm,
in the original Commedia's twenty-first Paradiso canto.
There, a ladder is seen reaching down from even greater heights,
a ladder to be illustrated in the next canto after focusing on Saturn.
In mythology, Saturn is viewed as the god of wealth, generation,
dissolution, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation, and time.
