Canto 30. Beatrice (March 2017)
Dante's guide up to this point in the poem was a pagan,
but according to Church teachings, people born before Christ
were forever exiled from heaven, so Virgil could not go any further.
This is the point in the poem where Beatrice, someone pure
who had ascended to heaven during Dante's life, descends from
above to help guide him to higher, more blissful states.
