We ascend to the 7th sphere of heaven, Saturn's crystal realm,
in the original Commedia's corresponding Paradiso canto.
There, a ladder is seen reaching down from even greater heights,
a ladder illustrated in the next song after focusing on Saturn.
In mythology, Saturn is viewed as the god of wealth, generation,
dissolution, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation, and time.
