We ascend to the seventh sphere of heaven, the crystal realm of Saturn,
in the twenty-first canto of Paradiso in the original Commedia.
There, a ladder is seen reaching down from even more ethereal heights,
a ladder I will portray in the next canto after focusing on Saturn.
In mythology, Saturn is viewed as the god of wealth, generation,
dissolution, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation, and time.
